Our Plan to End Childhood Hunger in Arkansas
Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit, is ending childhood hunger in America and Arkansas by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry CampaignTM – a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015 – Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in federal nutrition programs, invest in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a budget and builds public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.
The Arkansas No Kid Hungry partnership will develop a comprehensive five-year plan to end childhood hunger in Arkansas by 2015. This plan will increase the participation in key programs including the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the School Breakfast Program, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
At the core of Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry strategy to end childhood hunger in Arkansas are three goals:
- Improve access to public and private programs that provide food to families and their children who need and are not receiving it.
- Strengthen community infrastructure and systems for getting healthy food to children.
- Improve families' knowledge about available programs, healthy food choices and how to get the most from limited resources.
